Miguel Antonio Horn was born in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA), where he completed most of his academic education as a sculptor that also includes a residency in Italy during 2004. In 2006, after finishing his studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts en Philadelphia, he started a motorcycle journey to Mexico City, where he lived and worked for four years. In January of 2011 he joined the Philadelphia Traction Co. His pieces are made of bronze, with steel elements integrated. He focuses on the human figure, the constructive process of each piece, and the impact they cause once they are inserted in a public space. He has shown in solo as well as collective exhibitions in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Some of his pieces are being dis- played in urban spaces in Philadelphia, Campeche and Jilotepec. His work is also part of several private collections.
My work addresses the conflict of deteriorating traditions and western ideals of beauty, questioning the validity of their value in today’s society. I use the human figure as a central image in my work, exposing structural, constructive elements to contrast the organic nature of my sculpted forms. Working directly with manipulated steel and cast bronzes to realize my forms, the creation of my sculptures are an exploration of process and fabrication. I constantly question the completion of my compositions, at times working on them over the course of years
